myles new bio picRichard Myles, CEO and Chairman of the Minor Football League

In 1994, Richard D. Myles, owner and chief executive officer of The Washington Chiefs founded the Minor Football League to serve youth in the Washington DC metropolitan area. The Chiefs, which are a nonprofit corporation, was designed to provide an opportunity for athletic participation that does not ordinarily exist outside of college or professional sports.

An NFL veteran and sociology major who graduated from Arizona State, Myles uses both his professional and academic experience to develop and implement drug prevention, violence reduction and conflict resolution programs for youth eight to 18. The Chiefs are involved with mentoring, counseling and tutoring programs in cooperation with the District of Columbia Public Schools.

Myles spends a great deal of his spare time volunteering for children’s programs. He has sponsored and coached Special Olympics teams. He has worked as a director for the State of Maryland Parks and Planning, overseeing programs in various recreational centers for youth. He volunteered his time to coach an inner city junior high school football team when the school lost its coach, which he also did for another D.C. junior high school girls basketball team that found itself in the exact same position. He took both teams to back-to-back city championships!

Myles founded the Minor Football League, Inc. which unites 28 of the best minor league teams under the MFL banner. The MFL will prepare athletes to move to the next level of professional sports and provide an arena to present those players to the National, Canadian and European Football Leagues. An additional focus of the Minor Football League is community service. Each MFL member team must be involved in the community where it is based. A nationwide community service program for children is being planned and will be implemented in each of the 28 member cities.

Myles was honored by Dollars & Sense magazine as one of its America’s Best and Brightest Business and Professional Men.
